  • The meeting in Castlegar of Community Foundations was very welcome and useful. To read a summary of the meeting, click here

 

  • The next Board Meeting will be in a new location so please take note : March 30, 4 pm at the Kootenay Savings Invermere Brance, in the meeting room.
 
  • Call for Grant Applications for Spring 2010 will be due on March 12, 2010. Decisions will be made March 30, 2010!!!
 
  •  A representative of CVCF will be attending a regional meeting of community foundations in Castlegar BC on February 26, 2010 to discuss sustainability of community foundation. Thank you to Barb McMillan,Director of Regional Strategies for the CFC ( Community Foundations of Canada) and to the Columbia Basin Trust for their support in putting this meeting together.

2009
  • Spring 2009:Successful Application to the Columbia Basin Trust for $1500.00 to upgrade our website
  • Spring Granting provided funding for $2000 to the Invermere Fire Department for their Road Rescue Truck and $ 2000 to  the Edgewater Recreation Society for Community Hall Kitchen renovations
  • Summer 2009: Successful Application to the Regional District of East Kootenay for Columbia Basin Trust Funds in the amount of $30,000 to approved projects through the Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs in the Regional District of East Kootenay. This funding allows the Columbia Valley Community Foundation to direct funds to community grants in the fall of 2009 and in the Spring of 2010
  • The Summit Youth Centre was granted $2700 to provide a successful valley wide youth program. This was from funding provided by the Columbia Basin Trust.
  • Fall 2009: The CVCF was pleased to receive a Dell Laptop computer from the Columbia Basin Trust as they upgraded their equipment. This is a wonderful addition for our organization
  • October/November 2009: The CVCF put out a call for application for grants and after approval of the grants, an announcement will be made. Stay tuned!
  • Next Board Meeting December 3rd . Our November meeting has been changed as the regular date, the last Thursday of the each month, falls on the 26th of November, and on this day we will be exploring an exciting opportunity. Stay tuned!
  • Meeting with the Kootenay Saving Foundation in Trail on the 26th of November and in Invermere on the 28th of November for an announcement that will create a partnering between the CVCF and the KSF.
  • Fall granting has been decided!! And the successful grantees are: 1) Family Resource Centre:Lending Library- $ 2000 2) Headwaters Facility, Canal Flats - $2000  3)Windermere Valley Childcare Society , carpets - $ 2,295 4) Columbia Valley Arts Council - computer replacement $1000 5) COlumbia River Greenway, Banner for Skate track on lake $ 260 !!!!!!
  • Members of the Columbia Valley Community Foundation had an extremely successful meeting on November 28, 2009 at the Invermere Kootenay Savings. The meeting was more a gathering than a meeting, held in the lobby of the Kootenay Savings. WIth coffee and cookies and warmth and support, the CVCF was presented with an announcement of a gift from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation in the amount of $ 112,700. 95% of the funds, $ 107,065 will be held in perpetuity, and 5% , $5,635 , can be used as grant money to be distributed in the coming year. Both local newpapers, the Valley Echo and the Upper Columbia Pioneer were present and wrote informative articles on the gift and on the Foundations.
  • The announcement for spring granting will be submitted in both local newspapers in early February so look for it!
  • Next Board Meeting will be toward the end of January. We are looking into perhaps changing the date to a Monday, but please check back.
